One of Milinda's most popular newspaper columns which originally appeared in the Sunday Lankadeepa, Diyatha magazine in 2006 featured the life of a different world leader each week. It was later carried in the Sunday Thinakkural – and in September 2009, collected and presented in book form as Ennaik Kavarnda Ulagath Talaivargal . The Tamil translation was done by T. Senthilvelavar, former editor of the Thinnakaran.
The idea behind the column was to provide readers with an insight into the qualities of leadership. Each week a different well-known world leader was presented. The particular obstacles and challenges he or she faced was explored against the historical context of his or her times. The successes and failures of a diverse group of leaders - of different ideologies and from all regions of the world was laid out. In the process, readers came away, better informed about the challenges faced by other countries, as well as the important role played by leaders in bringing about change and facing national or global challenges.
The careers of 56 political leaders from the entire ideological spectrum and from all regions of the world were examined in this series, including Che Guevarra, Mahathir Mohamad, Margaret Thatcher, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sonia Gandhi, Deng Xiaoping, Gamal Abdel Nasser, Julius Nyerere, Abraham Lincoln, David Ben-Gurion, and Benazir Bhutto.
