Minister for Media Mangala Samaraweera and Colombo District Parliamentarian Milinda Moragoda met on the 10 January, at Matara District Secretary’s Office for a discussion to rebuild devastated area in Mara District with unified party effort. Leaders of the political parties in Sri Lanka, unmindful of their petty political differences have come forward to build the nation affected by the worst human catastrophe and as an experimental measure UNP’s Milinda Moragoda, Minister Mangala Samaraweera and many other leaders has come forward to work together.
As a first step, Minister for Media Mangala Samaraweera and Colombo District Parliamentarian Milinda Moragoda met on the 10 January, at Matara District Secretary’s Office for a discussion to rebuild devastated area in Mara District with unified party effort.
Parliamentarian, Athuraliye Rathana Thera, Luxman Yapa Abeywardhena and J.V.P Provincial Councilor Southern Province Council Sisira Kumara also participated at this meeting.
Representatives of Government departments, Corporations, Foreign Institutes and Private sector participated at this meeting in order to rebuild devastated lives in Matara district.
Constructing new houses for the homeless, reconstructing of new schools, close to proposed express highway was considered on this occasion.Victims will be resettled 100 meters away from the coastal line and more trees and plants will be planned to grow in coastal zone.
The lands have been identified to resettle and to reconstruct the houses for the people affected by the tusnami disaster.
Constructing of a ring road parallel to the express highway and special consideration for fishermen also discussed at this meeting.
“Whole district is affected by this devastation. People have lost their lives, properties and therefore mentally have fallen to a low ebb. Government’s responsibility is to look to all these matters”. Minister Mangala Samaraweera stated. Mr.Milinda Moragoda said it was time to put aside political differences and join hands together to rebuild our country.
Mr.Samaraweera agreed with that suggestion and this special meeting was the first step for joining hands together. The whole country should act to achieve this objective.The District Secretary of the Matara district produced the new plans for housing, roads, and business places to the participants.The heads of the Departments of lands, irrigation, fisheries, welfare societies, health and Divisional Secretaries were also present on this occasion.
