The Minister was received by the College Principal, Dr. H.J.F. Silva, other college officials, and the President of the Law Students’ Union, Sampath Kanishka. During the meeting, the issues and problems facing the college and the student body, and ways in which the college could be supported were discussed.

The Sri Lanka Law College, which is located in Hulftsdorp, was originally established as the Ceylon Law College under the Council of Legal Education in 1874. It was founded with the purpose of imparting a formal legal education to those who wished to be lawyers in the country.

The college falls under the management of the Council of Legal Education, which is chaired by the Chief Justice. Though it provides a course of study for law students, it does not confer any degree or certificate.

Instead it administers the examinations required as part of the requirement for admission to the Sri Lankan Bar. The institution is completely self-financed and receives no government funding.
