Leader of the Sri Lanka National Congress Minister Milinda Moragoda says that the party will carry out its election campaign without putting up posters and cutouts which inconvenience the public.
The minister noted the money saved as a result of this move would be used for public welfare.
The funds that were saved, as a result of this decision taken regarding propaganda activities, by Minister Milinda Moragoda, who is contesting the Colombo district under the banner of the UPFA, were donated for the renovation of the Vajirarama Vihara in Bambalapitiya yesterday.
“We thought a lot about it before presenting this proposal. The first proposal was to create a political culture that respects the citizens. Today our focus is on the financial aspect of this, for, we do not have financial guidelines where political campaigns are concerned.
"In many countries, such financial controls are there. We have already presented proposals in that regard.
"There should be transparency and a regulatory mechanism in getting finances to conduct election campaigns. My view is that it is almost impossible to bring about good management without such guidelines," said Mr. Moragoda. |
