The ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) will today finalise its nomination lists for the upcoming local council elections, General Secretary and Minister Susil Premajayantha said yesterday.

He said the party would nominate former Minister Milinda Moragoda as its candidate for the post of Mayor of Colombo but no decision had yet been taken on who would head the list for the elections to the other local councils.

"We have finalised the selection of candidates from each of our alliance partners and would finalise the nomination lists with the signatures of the candidates tomorrow," he said.

The elections will be held to 23 local councils including 18 municipal councils. Meanwhile, United National Party (UNP) Vice President Lakshman Kiriella said the selection of candidates would be completed today. "The party is yet to announce the names of those who will head the lists," he said.
