JLM to revive judicial process in North
 

 

 
 

The Justice and Law Reforms Ministry (JLM) is planning to embark on a program to revive the Judicial process in the Northern province.


Justice and Law Reforms Minister Milinda Moragoda accompanied by Ministry officers paid a visit to the Appeal and District Court premises in Jaffna last Friday.


The Minister met the Judges, Officials and lawyers of the Jaffna peninsula. Minister Moragoda and ministry officials have undertaken special assignments to assess the social background and to obtain first hand information on the infrastructure facilities available in the areas. District Courts and Magistrate Courts are functioning in Mallakam, Point Pedro, Kayts, Jaffna and Chavakachcheri, in the Jaffna District while there is a District and Magistrate courts in the Vavuniya District, there are no law courts functioning in Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi districts.


A new High Court will be set up in Kilinochchi once the recommendations of the judicial de-limitation commission are implemented.

A new District Court will also be set up in Kilinochchi and another in Mulaitivu while circuit court will be set up in Velanai.
