Mine action training program

INFORMATION Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA) Training program was a long felt necessity and the preliminary discussion was held at the Ministry of Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconciliation on March 28 -30 organised by the Program Manager Luke Atkinson of Norwegian People's Aid in collaboration with Ministry of Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconciliation.

Project Director of Norwegian People's Aid Sumanasena Abeywarna took the initiative to implement this type of valuable task having invited Halil Radogoshi, Course Coordinator (System Consultant - NPA Oslo) to conduct the program.

Norwegian People's Aid is the largest de-mining agency with a work force of 600 local de-miners who have successfully completed the tasks as per scheduled target to date in the North East, and this training program is very important as the following points were extensively discussed.

As IMSMA operators are doing a Herculean task, a first-rate training was given about how to perform their de-mining operations in an efficient manner.

The facts such as data collecting and summarizing in producing views of de-mining areas, reports and data analysis, replying to various information requests from database and maps displayed with data were specifically highlighted and discussed in a wide range.

Also as Norwegian People's Aid is involved in a colossal task of de-mining in the North East, IMSMA Training program is extremely vital in expediting their activities.

Representatives from the Sri Lankan Army, Milinda Moragoda Institute of People's Empowerment, WFP, Ministry of Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconciliation and Norwegian People's Aid were among the participants.
