Community - Based Tourism (CBT), the latest trend in Sri Lankan tourism, pushed forward with the appointment of an Advisory Panel.
The new tourism policy of the Government is to ensure a unified and inclusive approach to develop and maintain sustainable tourism in Sri Lanka based on rational use of its natural, cultural, human and adventure resources, Sri Lanka tourism is accordingly committed to promote community based tourism that trickles down the benefits to the communities.
In facilitation of this concept, the Tourism Minister has appointed an Advisory Panel recently to look into the matters, such as how best in Sri Lanka Tourism could get the support of the CBTOs, to identify the existing and future CBT projects and what kind of assistance should be provided to those CBT projects to enhance their contribution to the tourism industry.
The Advisory Panel had its first a meeting in Colombo, in association with the Sri Lanka Tourist Board, recently with an intention to gather firsthand information on existing CBTOs and their existing and future Community Based Tourism projects.
In this endeavour, those CBTOs and related tourism NGOs that are interested in taking part in the Meeting are kindly requested to get in touch with Dr. D.A.C.Silva or Mr. Palitha Gurusinghe.
