Commissioner General for Prisons Major General V.R.D. De Silva said that a newly built Vavuniya prison will be opened soon.


Construction of buildings in the prison premises and providing infrastructure facilities are almost completed. Recruiting prison guards have commenced. Accordingly, 167 trained prison guards will join the service in the coming days. The passing out ceremony of these Prison Guards was held yesterday at the Welikada prison premises. Justice Minister Milinda Moragoda was the Chief Guest of the event.
