Programme to review judicial process in NP to be launched

 

The Ministry of Justice and Law Reform will soon launch a programme to review the judicial process in the Northern Province A Ministry press release said yesterday.


Minister of Justice and Law Reforms, Milinda Moragoda had directed Ministry officers to submit a report on the work they need to accomplish. Several Ministry officials have undertaken special assignments in the North to assess the social background and to obtain first hand information on the infrastructure facilities available in the areas in question.


At present, District Courts and Magistrate Courts are functioning in Mallakam, Pt Pedro, Kayts, Jaffna and Chavakachcheri, in the Jaffna Distract while there is a District and Magistrate Courts in the Vavuniya District, there are no law courts functioning in the Mullaitive and Kilinochchi districts as for now.

However, a new High Court will be setup in Kilinochchi shortly once the recommendations of the Judicial de-limitation Commission are implemented early next year. Under this a new District Court will also be setup in Kilinochchi and another in Mullaitive while circuit court will be set up in Velanai. The release said.
