The government will expedite legal proceedings relating to LTTE suspects held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and Emergency Regulations.
Justice Ministry spokesman Gamini Sarath Godakanda told The Island that Justice and Law Reforms Minister Milinda Moragoda on Wednesday (Jan 13) had received President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s approval to fast track the process in keeping with a recently taken government decision.
He said that relevant authorities would be shortly informed of the new approach so that the grievances of many detainees and persons in remand custody could be addressed early.
Under the auspices of Minister Moragoda, three batches of persons in government custody were released in October, November and December last year.(SF) |
