Sri Lanka Convention Bureau, (SLCB) now a statutory body under the Ministry of Tourism is taking full advantage of Ramayana potential from India and the Bureau will continue to support the program initiated by Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and supported by Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, during this year too.
The last Ramayana promotion in India was led by the Tourism Minister Milinda Moragoda who was invited to deliver the keynote speech at ‘Vibrant Gujarat Global Investor’s Summit’ held last month. Gujarat has a potential to generate a higher percentage of tourists and MICE tourists to Sri Lanka say’s Vipula Wanigasekera SLCB’s General Manager.
Apart from projecting events under the Ramayana theme surrounding the economic summit, the SLCB Chairman Prema Cooray headed the promotion of the meetings industry in Sri Lanka among the tour operators in Gujarat who specialize in putting together meetings and incentive packages for Indian Corporates. The networking opportunity was immense’ says Prema Cooray.
The Ramayana dance drama presented by Aru Sri Theatre of Kalasuri Sri Ranganathan added value to the awareness program of Ramayana sites in Sri Lanka and this is a breakthrough with the interest shown by the Indians to visit Sri Lanka to witness Asoka Vathika in the current year.
The Asoka Vathika was further publicized by the Indian media that attended the press conference chaired by Minister Moragoda.
SLCB GM, Wanigasekera says that this is one strategy of the Bureau to bring the corporates from India and that includes Adventure to Religious based events. Ramayanaya is a way of life for millions of Indians; no matter what class they hold in society.
Showing them of the places in Asoka Vathika in Sri Lanka will influence more and more visitors to come to Sri Lanka and we could couple leisure and Corporate Meetings with a Ramayanaya tour, which would be unique, and no competitor can match such a rich and rewarding tour for a Hindu.
The combined promotion in Gujarat brought in the agencies of Sri Lanka Tourism together, particularly SLCB, SLTDA and SLTPB with the industry. |
