Minister of Justice and Law Reforms Milinda Moragoda appointed a committee to study the Muslim marriage and divorce law and submit a report recommending changes that are to be made in the existing law. “A committee headed by Dr. A. M. M. Shahabdeen was appointed to research on reforms to be made on Muslim divorce law 15 years ago and this committee after a lengthy research had submitted a report which had not been submitted to parliament” said Attorney at Law A. G. H. Ameen one of the members of this committee.

Muslim circles stress the authority concerned to submit recommendations without delay after studying this report along with the new one.
