Sri Lanka National Congress Leader and Colombo district UPFA candidate Milinda Moragoda made a pledge at the Vajiraramaya in Colombo last week that he would run an election campaign free of posters, large cutouts, firecrackers and polythene decorations. In addition, in order to highlight the wastage of money on campaigns, he pledged to run a campaign free of extravagance, and to use the money saved on community development projects.

Mr. Moragoda has donated a part of his campaign budget towards the upgrading of the city’s playgrounds and the renovation of elders’ homes. As a first step in this new campaign, Mr. Moragoda and the SLNC Campaign Committee has decided to undertake the long overdue repairs of the roof of the library of the historic Vajirarama Temple and some of its buildings.

A substantial donation was handed over to the Dayaka Sabhava so that work could commence immediately. The Ven. Thirikunamalaye Ananda (Amarapura Darmarakshitha Nikaya Anunayaka Thera), The Ven. Balangoda Sobitha (the Parivenadhipathi of the Vidhyodaya Pirivena), The Ven. Ahangama Ananda, and the Ven Denipitiye Somarathana and members of the Vajiraramaya Dayakasabhava were present at the event.
