Economic Reforms, Science and Technology Minister Milinda Moragoda while stating that the country has performed poorly in the aspect of implementing plans to build the country stressed the need to convert such plans to reality.
Addressing the inauguration of the Management Club (TMC) at the Mount Lavinia Hotel and the launching of the web site the minister said that the government has a vision and a plan for the country to bring peace and economic development, has talked about it creating awareness in the recent past and come to an important stage of implementing them. “Time for talking is over what is left is hard work”, he added.
He further explained that building up a vision and dreams is easy but making them into reality is a challenge and stressed the importance of hard work, management and team building to fulfill them.
British High Commissioner Steven Evens said that Sri Lanka is important not only as a market but as a regional hub. He also said that there are more than 120 Sri Lanka-UK joint ventures in Sri Lanka providing employment to over 55,000 people. “Majority of these companies concentrate on good management and that had led to their success”, Mr. Evens said adding that UK welcomes the link of Sri Lanka and United Kingdom managers through the Chartered Management Institute of UK and the Sri Lanka Branch.
TMC Chairman Fayaz Saleem said that within a period of few months TMC has increased the membership to 400 and has been able to expand into Mount Lavinia Hotel. Mr. Saleem further said that it is important to interact and network for the success of management services in the country.
TMC was initially inaugurated at Galle Face Hotel on February 12 2002 with 100 members with the charter status from UK. The cream of the Sri Lankan business community has become members of the Club. He said that future holds better prospects for the members of the TMC as the Executive Committee is hopeful of having the Clubs extended to townships such as Kandy, Galle and Trincomalee within the next year. It has also been internationalized with the launch of the official website www.themanagementclub.com. TMC also plans to have reciprocal arrangements with similar Clubs in the region, at places such as Singapore, Malaysia, India and Dubai in the future. |
