Seminar on “e-Sri Lanka”

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce will hold a seminar on “e-Sri Lanka:  Sri Lanka’s ICT Roadmap” on December 17 from 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. at the Ground Floor Auditorium of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber said that the Government, private sector and other stakeholders in the nation’s development share a belief that ICT is a foundation medium for the equitable distribution of opportunity and knowledge within societies and communities and a key determinant of the competitive advantage of Nations.  This belief has resulted in a shared vision for an e-Sri Lanka – a vision, which will take the dividends of ICT to every village, to every citizen, to every business and also transform the way Government works.

“e-Sri Lanka” is an initiative of the Minister of Economic Reform, Science and Technology Milinda Moragoda consisting of a five-pronged strategy that envisions the development of Sri Lanka’s ICT sector.

e-Sri Lanka was officially launched by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on November 20.  The e-Sri Lanka Action Plan envisions the creation and development of global markets for employment generation, deployment of e–government concepts with emphasis on productivity and competitiveness and socio-cultural integration of a united nation, revolving on the axis of developing Sri Lanka’s economy, reducing poverty and improving the quality of life and opportunities or the people.

The roadmap is expected to create an enabling environment and work in partnership with private sector associations and NGOs to create the infrastructure, establish e-government services and brand  “Sri Lanka Inc.” as a  hi-tech nation.

The objective of the seminar is to create awareness  on e-Sri Lanka among all stakeholders and to have an active dialogue on issues, particularly infrastructure issues, pertaining to implementation of e-Sri Lanka.

The seminar includes the following sessions: e-Sri Lanka; Smart People, Smart Island by Eran Wickremaratne, IT Advisor, Ministry of Economic Reforms and CEO, NDB Bank and Infrastructure issues of e-Sri Lanka by Prof. Rohan Samarajeewa, Team Leader – Public interest Program Unit Ministry of Economic Reforms and Science and Technology.
