Moragoda on mission to Tokyo

Minister and peace negotiator Milinda Moragoda is flying to Tokyo tomorrow after the Japanese Government reportedly offered to make available its good offices, if necessary, to bring harmony where there is discord, regarding the peace process.

Tokyo has also expressed deep concern over the current situation in Sri Lanka and expressed the hope the two major political parties would work out a via media to cooperate and agree on a consensual approach to the peace process as both the government and the PA are committed to a negotiated settlement.

Japan has played a leading role in Sri Lanka’s peace process and in arranging the recent Tokyo meeting of international donors who pledged a massive $ 4.5 billion to rebuild Sri Lanka if peace was established.

In Tokyo, Mr. Moragoda is scheduled to meet Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi and special envoy Yashusi Akashi among others.
