Model road from Borella to Kirulapone
Minister Milinda Moragoda is talking with the people
of the area after the ceremony which declared the special
plan implemented in future to discipline.

“A country develops after constructing roads.  Construction of roads after development has no use”, said former Parliamentary Sec. General Sam Wijesinghe, at the opening ceremony of Baseline Road as model road, from Borella to Kirulapona.

This ceremony which declared the Baseline Road from D.S. Senanayake Roundabout at Borella to Kirulapona junction as a model road was held at Polhengoda junction under the patronage of Mr. Sam Wijesinghe.  This road was constructed using the Japanese aid of Rs. 1680 million repayable over 20 years.

A special plan will be implemented in future to discipline pedestrians and drivers by strictly adhering to highway rules, to minimize accidents and to avoid road traffic.  Police stations at Kirulopona, Narahenpita and Borella have arranged a special group of traffic police officers for this purpose and Road Development Authority joined with the National Lotteries Board providing other necessary facilities.

Minister for Economic Reforms, Science and Technology forwarded this proposal to make this road which runs across Colombo East electorate, a model road, devoid of accidents and beneficial to people.

Minister for Defence, Transport, Highways and Aviation Thilak Marapana, Minister of Highways A.L.M. Athawulla, Mayor of Colombo Prasanna Gunawardena, Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Saichiro Othsuka, Inspector General of Police T. Anandarajah and people of the area participated on this occasion.
