Milinda interviews World Bank chief in New York via Videoconferencing

For the very first time in the history of Sri Lanka broadcasting a television interview was taped via video conference when “In Black & White” host and key Minister Milinda Moragoda conducted an interview by videoconference, with his guest, the President of the World Bank, James D. Wolfensohn.

The interview was held late last Wednesday evening at the World Bank office in Colombo, where Mr. Moragoda was linked via satellite to Mr. Wolfensohn at the headquarters of the World Bank in Washington DC.

Some of the topics discussed at the interview were, the role of the World Bank in the 21 st century, poverty alleviation, the use of technology in development and the role of women in development.

This special edition of In Black & White will be telecast shortly on MTV.

Mr. Wolfensohn, the World Bank Group’s ninth president since 1946, established his career as an international investment banker with a parallel involvement in development issues and the global environment. He was appointed to the position in 1995 under the Clinton administration. In 1999, Mr. Wolfensohn was unanimously reappointed by the Bank’s Board of Executive Directors to a second five year term as president, making him the third president in World Bank history to serve a second term.
