Commonwealth Secretary-General supports peace process

Economic Reforms, Science and Technology Minister Milinda Moragoda met Don McKinnon, Commonwealth Secretary-General in Marlborough House, the Headquarters of the Commonwealth Secretariat, in London.

The Minister briefed the Secretary-General extensively on both the peace process and the Economic Reform Program.

He thanked Mr. McKinnon for the support that the Commonwealth is providing in some key areas, particularly in developing a communication strategy for the peace process and in strengthening the organizational structure at the centre of government to improve co-ordination and delivery.

The Secretary-General expressed strong support for the peace process and encouraged the government to implement its economic reform program.

The Minister also requested Commonwealth assistance in the design of the Youth Corps. He emphasized that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe attached high priority to this program.

He hoped that Sri Lanka could benefit by drawing on best practice within the 54 nations of the Commonwealth.
