British Minister here to boost peace process

British Foreign Office Minister, Mike O’Brien will arrive in Colombo tomorrow for a two-day visit to discuss the progress of the peace process and other matters of bilateral interest.

The British High Commission yesterday quoted Mr. O’Brien as saying: “Britain was firmly behind the peace process in Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan government and the LTTE deserve high praise for the constructive way in which they have begun talks to end the long running conflict in Sri Lanka” he said.

Mr.O’Brien is expected to meet Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Ministers G.L. Peiris, Milinda Moragoda and other senior officials.

He will also be making a speech titled “New Threats to International Security” at the BMICH tomorrow. The Speech will address issues of immediate interest and concern in the global context as well as those of particular relevance to the evolving peace process in Sri Lanka and will be followed by a question and answer session in which the audience will have the opportunity to obtain further clarification on the British government’s perspective on international security and the peace process in Sri Lanka.
