The 100 days program of the new Government is not intended to develop the fallen economy of the country overnight.  But it is expected to lay a solid foundation towards a steadfast recovery, Economic Reforms and Science and Technology Minister Milinda Moragoda said after assuming duties at his Ministry yesterday.

Minister Moragoda before assuming duties punched a time card to record his attendance setting a new example in the political history of Sri Lanka.  “Discipline has to come right from the top.  That is what we have been preached by our leadership.  Thus, I intend to ensure that discipline is strictly maintained in my Ministry, setting an example by myself first”, he said.

He said that Sri Lanka has very promising human resources that can face any challenge.  If it is properly managed we can prosper like Japan, Taiwan and Singapore whose development was solely based on their rich human resources.

However, one of the biggest challenges facing our government is to unify the society that is fragmented on religious, caste, creed and political lines.  Unless we unite with determination there will be no development or economic recovery for the country, the Minister emphasised.

A pirith chanting ceremony was held at the new Ministry building located at Elvitigala Mawatha, Narahenpita (formerly Pelawatte Sugar Corporation office) on Wednesday night.  The Science and Technology Ministry was formerly situated at T.B. Jaya Mawatha, Colombo 10.

Secretary to the Ministry G. Hewagama and the Ministry staff were present at the occasion.
